Shelbyville-based Ryobi Die Casting USA Inc. this week detailed plans to invest $50 million to expand its aluminum die casting facility in Irapauto, Mexico.

The company said the investment, which will include 124 new jobs, will add more capacity to support anticipated future demand in the electric vehicle market.

The expansion will add 91,500 square feet of space to the 465,000-square-foot facility, which currently employs 724 people. The project will also include five new high-pressure die cast machines.

“This marks another significant milestone for Ryobi in North America,” President and Chief Operating Officer Ryan Willhelm said in a news release. “Ryobi’s decision to expand its operations in Irapuato is a testament to the hard-working men and women there who have earned a reputation for high quality work as an automotive supplier.”

Construction on the expansion will begin next month and is expected to be complete in April 2025.

Ryobi Die Casting is a subsidiary of Japan-based Ryobi Limited and manufactures aluminum die castings for the automotive industry.

The company also operates 1 million square feet of manufacturing space and employs 930 workers in Shelbyville. The last expansion on that campus took place in 2016, when Ryobi invested $100 million to purchase and equip a facility next to its main manufacturing plant and add 150 jobs.
